ZAIN REBRANDING.
News coming out of london, is that Bharti Airtel plans to launch a major announcement and activity in Nairobi, which is their Africa headquaters on the 22nd of November 2010, with a huge exclusive bash already in the works.
What could be bigger than Zain Kenya rebranding?
According to major local shareholders, the time is now ripe to take the fight to Zain's local competition, while many media corporates are already bracing for the wind fall that comes with a corporate rebranding blitz, such as has happened before during the kencell-celtel-zain rebranding.
In the said meeting held in London on the 7th of this month, the go ahead for the 'rebrand' was given, and in a celebratory fashion, the message went out, "Change is in the air, please save the 22nd of November for an event that will change the world of communication and redefine the concept of freedom in Africa!!!"
Needless to say, the announcement has spooked the competition, with a local green giant scrambling to position itself for the blitz.
As of Wednesday this week, that green giant had managed to lock up FIVE MONTH'S WORTH of media spots on prime time news, opening clocks, bumper spots, news highlights and other prime time slots, for five months!!!! on several different major channels and reserved space in newsapers and magazines.
Again, needless to say, they have spent gazillions.
Zain, soon to be Bharti Airtel, is also dusting off it's war chest, and has set aside such a massive amount that the Zain Kenya board chairman commented,
" For the first time, this company has major investors with the right mindset for competition and success."

Attempts to get a comment from Zain Kenya on whether the company was worried by the competition's positioning on the eve of their big day, was met and rebuffed with a cool and composed,
" Relax daddie, tumejipanga, u will soon see us in the market..."
Well, the 22nd is all of 11 days away so, even with current Nairobi weather threatening to rain on the Zain Party, (maybe it is a blessing) , that date is sure to be the bigeest bash Nairobi has seen in decades.... YES DECADES..... oh yeah, and by the way, I am invited.....
see invitation below....
