HOTEL REVIEW; Bungoma Tourist Hotel
The worst way to spend 1500/= in a day is to visit Bungoma town and spend the night at the Bungoma tourist hotel. That was what I did covering the referendum….. make no mistake, the staff are courteous, jolly but the place itself seems to have gone to seed after the then President Moi opened it up in 1979. Basic doesn’t even begin to describe the trappings of the place…the beds are small, water supply erratic and cold, because the heater was being powered by the water.
I travel a lot in my line of work and have had much better for three hundred bob….. the seat were old and rickety, the tables looked like they survived Noah’s flood and besides tea and chicken, (sorry, the staff is mostly luhya) they can barely cook well enough to save their own lives….
Most of the hotel complex looks unfinished ( the plaque says opened by his Excellency in 1979)and the ambience in mostly bicycle bells and some welders clanging next door. I spent three nites there and was glad to fall asleep every day to shut out the agony of the waste and rip off that hotel is.
Who owns this dump anyway? Must be a pseudo parastatal…..it had government waster written all over it.
Lastly, the joint is the favourite hang out of western members of parliament. Shame on you messrs Khangati, Wetangula, Kombo et al….
PS. THERE WAS A GOVERNMENT PASSAT PARKED OUTSIDE IN THE LOT MOST OF MY STAY…..
#Thanks @sokoanalyst
